Cancer of the Prostate

Prostate cancer is a complex and challenging disease and of significant importance to the international health community. The aim of the 'Cancer of the Prostate' course is to introduce nurses to this disease, its treatments and side-effects, and to highlight the care, support and information requirements of those affected by it.

Course team

Nicola James. Nicola was appointed as a Macmillan Nurse Consultant in 2005. This role incorporates that of Cancer Lead Nurse for Chesterfield Royal Hospital Foundation Trust in the United Kingdom. However, in addition to her lead nurse duties, Nicola also has her own caseload of men with prostate cancer.

Nicola has published and presented on a variety of prostate cancer related subjects but her main research interests have included nurse-led clinics, inappropriate use of the PSA test, and support needs of men affected by prostate cancer. She is also very interested in the development of competencies for the Clinical Nurse Specialist role.

Teresa Lynch. Teresa has more than thirty years of nursing experience in both the education and practice fields within the NHS and the Private sector in the UK. Teresa's current role is at The Prostate Cancer Charity as a specialist support and Information Nurse. Here the Nursing team members provide support and information for patient and relatives' calls (on the Helpline) and emails and liaison with the African Caribbean community specialist staff.
